A student may be excused for the following 8 reasons under the normal Absence Policy:

1. Personal illness
2. Serious illness or death of an immediate family member  (Immediate family includes        parents or legal guardians, grandparents, siblings, and stepfamily)
3. Special and recognized religious holidays recognized by their faith as High Holy Days.
4. Mandated order of government agencies
5. Registration to vote (limited to one day)
6. Emergencies which reasonably necessitate absences from school
7. Service as Pages in the General Assembly of the State of Georgia (Students serving in
this capacity must gain school approval at least one week in advance of the absence)
8. Days missed from school to visit with his or her parent or legal guardian prior to
deployment to or during leave from an overseas assignment to a combat zone or              combat support posting, up to a maximum of 5 school days per school year.

For any of the reasons listed above, the student can turn in a parent note to each teacher. The teachers will review the parent note and record the absence code accordingly.  It is the student's responsibility to make sure each of his/her teachers sees the absence excuse note.  The sixth period teacher will keep the note in a file for the remainder of the semester.

For special event absences, see below:

Students may be excused for absences that involve a special event.  Click the link below to determine if your absence can meet the guidelines.  If it can't, the absence will be unexcused and the student will not be able to exempt any exams.

If an absence qualifies as a recognized special event, then a request form must be submitted at least one week in advance to the Principal.  Requests submitted after the absence has taken place will not be accepted!  Please remember that one unexcused absence will prevent a student from exempting ANY semester exam!  It is the student and parent's responsibility to properly document any absences in order to get them excused.

This is the fourth year of this attendance policy, so it should not be new to anyone.
